Ponytail and Changework
There are always three speeches, for every one you actually gave. The one you practiced, the one you gave, and the one you wish you gave. ~Dale Carnegie
This post will have some additional information about using the NLP Generalization Technique that was demonstrated and practiced in the seminar on Wednesday, October 24th. I know that a number of the seminar attendees were profoundly affected by the exercise and are anxious to work with it more on their own. I am working on the newest generation of the MP3 self guided version of the technique and I will have the link out to those of you that sent me emails as soon as possible. Look to the end of this entry for more explanation of how to use this exercise.
It was a great seminar at the Boulder Chamber. We had about 30 people show up and that was just right for this day and this topic. We did some very intense personal change work and had a blast. Oh, and before I forget, here is a picture of my new ponytail, something I have not had since I was 16. I love it!
Here are some simple explanations that will help you with your recall and practice of the NLP based technique I demonstrated:
- There are 9 squares. Always start and return to the center after each change in perspective.
- Starting in the center, first elicit as much of the state as you can. How would you be standing, breathing, moving, feeling? Would you be saying anything to yourself or hearing any internal dialog or voices when you are in this state? Would you be seeing any pictures or visions? Again, put yourself into as much of the state as you can at the beginning.
- You will be taking your new state thru 9 perceptual positions and gathering positive information that will help the state you are working to generalize rapidly become more accessible and more powerful.
- Each time you do the exercise it will become more powerful for you. Over time, your mind will completely understand the kind of information you are looking for and what perceptual position is represented by each square.
- This exercise will certainly feel unusual to you at first. You are doing something profound and highly different than what you normally do with your mind. Good! Keep doing it. It is always working for you.
- From each square return to the center with only the positive information that is available to you in that square. There may, although it does not happen often,l be some negative information there as well. Ignore that for the purposes of this exercise, leave the negative information there, but you can remember that the information is there for future reference. The negative information is best handled in a different exercise.
- Work the squares in order. Move from 1 to 2 all the way thru 9. In each case, always return to the center of the square and receive the positive information. Let it add to the state. Let the state expand, become even more powerful, re-anchor it and move to the next square.
I have reproduced the square here for your reference as you read this post.
- Square 1: The here and now. Always return here bringing back new information and adding this information to your state.
- Square 2: Casual Observers from your future. People that have just met or observed you. Observing you with this new resource they have some positive information for you.
- Square 3: Significant Others from your past. People that were important in your past, but now observing you with this new resource…they have positive information for you to add to the state.
- Square 4: Casual Observers in the present. People that have just met you…are just meeting you…but meeting the you with new resource they experience you in a different was and have information for you
- Square 5: Significant Others from your future. People that may know now that will still be in your future or important people from your future that you have not met yet
- Square 6: Your own past, visiting the younger you with the gift of this new resource to give to the younger you…what positive changes does this cause in your life?
- Square 7: Significant Others in the present…experiencing you with this new resource…this state…they have positive feedback for you as well
- Square 8: Casual Observers from your past…don’t know you well…but sensing you with this new resource, they have positive feedback for you as well about how they experience you…first meeting you with this resource
- Square 9: Your future self…your future self telling you of all of the positive changes that happened in your life with the addition of this new resource.
That is probably enough for today. MP3 in process. Enjoy!
Till next time…Jack
