Master Getting Stuff Done and Have Fun Along the Way (Part 6)

“All my best thoughts were stolen by the ancients.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Everyone performs better, achieves more, with less stress, when they focus on one thing at a time. You can quote me on that!
I thought I would show some pictures of my desktop and my computer desktop and the top five folders on my computer desktop and the top 5 folders and holder on my side desk. I am not showing these to impress you with how clean I can keep my desk. I am showing you these to inspire you to make some changes, if you need to.
I have never seen a messy desk and a messy computer desktop without there also being a price paid by the person that keeps it that way. Never. Let me say that again…Never! If your desk and desktop are cluttered and full of stuff, then you are giving up something to keep it that way. Perhaps you waste time hunting for things. Perhaps you jump from project to project and never really accomplish much. Perhaps you are always feeling a sense of projects pressing on you, even when you are taking effective action on something. I don’t know what price you are paying, but I know you are paying one.
In my many years of working with clients I have come to believe this: The condition of your desk and desktop accurately reflects how your inner world is organized as well. In other words, I can predict, with a very high level of accuracy, the kinds of emotional and mental issues that you are dealing with by looking at your desk.
So, back to mine. You will see that except for some trinkets that inspire me, my visual field is completely clean…waiting for my next project to begin. My computer desktop is the same way, with only 8 items allowed to stay visible. Five of those are of course my top 5 projects that I wish to keep moving forward. My side desk is the same, although I do have a bit more clutter here and that is okay…just as long as I can’t see it when I am working.
For those of you with sharp eyes you will see on my main desk 2 flying pigs, a Pooh bear dressed in antique flying gear and a Japanese crane. These artifacts represent things that are continually motivating to me. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be there.
So ready to begin the process of cleaning up your visual field? Some of you really need to do this, and you know who you are! Enough preaching for tonight…till next time…Jack
“The time to begin writing an article is when you have finished it to your satisfaction. By that time you begin to clearly and logically perceive what it is you really want to say.” ~Mark Twain

Jack, I thought I had a clean, uncluttered workspace. But I reorganized after reading/seeing yours. Thanks for the inspiration and insight.
