“Life is like a dog sled team.  If you ain’t the lead dog, the scenery never changes.”  ~Lewis Grizzard

How would it improve your business and your life if you were considered to be one of absolute “experts” in your field?  Let me ask that another way: If you were a known and acknowledged expert in some field, what would be the positive results of achieving that status?  I expect you can think of lots of great results.  I know I have experienced lots of magic in my life, business and otherwise, from my expertise in coaching and consulting.  So what would it be like to be a known and acknowledged expert?  There are 3 components to my question and the results that are waiting for you.

1) Becoming and expert    2) being acknowledged as an expert by others    3) being “known” as an expert

Today I am going to talk about becoming that expert.  I have been a coach since 1989.  This is long before that term had any generally acknowledged meaning outside of sports.  When I add up my time with Dale Carnegie and NLP and Anthony Robbins and the Coaches Training Institute I have literally had years of training that directly relates to my field.  I am an expert.  However I started the process of becoming an expert long before that and I did it by using “Dead Time.”

When I was still in college, and that really goes back awhile, I was introduced to self improvement audio cassettes.  I happened to hear a radio interview with Earl Nightingale and he was talking about using time while you were driving to learn new skills and become an expert.  Then I attended a seminar by a then fairly young Brian Tracy and he talked about the same thing – how to become a world class expert while driving around.  I was convinced!  I called Nightingale – Conant, this is long before the internet, and had a catalog sent to me.  What a great world this introduced to me and what a difference it has made in my life!

So are you an expert?  If not, then it is time to become one.  Already an expert?  What are you doing to stay that way and stay up with the new advances in your field?  Next time I will talk more about this process and how it can transform your life – business and personal.

Bye for now…Jack
